Delhi CNG Rates Increased Again: Check New Prices in NCR Cities
The prices of compressed natural gas (CNG) have increased once again in Delhi and NCR. Amid rising global fuel prices linked to tensions involving Iran and the United States, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has raised CNG prices by ₹2 per kilogram from May 26. This is the fourth increase in CNG prices within the last two weeks, adding more pressure on commuters and transport operators. After the latest revision, the price of CNG in Delhi has gone up from ₹81.09 per kg to ₹83.09 per kg. In nearby NCR cities such as Noida, Ghaziabad, and Greater Noida, consumers will now pay ₹91.70 per kg. In Gurugram, the new CNG rate has reached ₹88.12 per kg. The increase in CNG prices comes just a day after oil companies raised petrol and diesel prices. On May 25, petrol prices were increased by ₹2.61 per litre, while diesel prices went up by ₹2.71 per litre. Following this revision, petrol in Delhi is now priced at ₹102.12 per litre and diesel at ₹95.20 per litre. Experts say the major reason behind the fuel price hike is the sharp rise in crude oil prices in the international market. Before the Iran-US conflict escalated, crude oil prices were around $70 per barrel. However, they have now crossed the $100 per barrel mark. Due to this increase, oil marketing companies are facing heavy financial pressure. According to Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, state-owned oil companies are currently losing nearly ₹600 crore every day. Before the recent price revisions started on May 15, these losses had reportedly touched around ₹1,000 crore daily due to the sale of petrol, diesel, and domestic LPG at lower rates. The fuel price hike is also expected to impact daily life and essential commodities. Transportation costs for trucks and tempos may rise, which could make vegetables, fruits, and grocery items more expensive. Farmers may also face higher operational costs because tractors and irrigation pumps run on fuel. Public transport fares, including buses and auto-rickshaws, may also increase in the coming weeks. Despite the rising prices, demand for CNG vehicles continues to grow. In cities like Bhopal, sales of CNG vehicles have reportedly increased by nearly 50% over the past three years. Consumers still prefer CNG vehicles because they offer better mileage and remain cheaper to operate compared to petrol and diesel vehicles.
